trans.gifThe forum guidelines

The quality of a website depends of its users, and although we seldom have "to censor", we are particularly carefull that our forum is not left to the mercy of "vandals" and other "unconditional taggers ". We also refuse any attack on people or any statement that could dammage their integrity.
It's the reason why we wrote this GuppAttitude guide which is the charter of our forum use, its "Magna Carta".

* First, I look by myself

  • Before posting my "may day" (my "SOS") on the forum, I have a look at the repair kit and the FAQ

  • Then I control if I can't find the answer to my question in the available documentation ( Manuals)

  • I have a look on the freeguppy website and make a research with the search motor (notice here)

* If I don't find anything, I post my S.O.S.

In this post I have to be as clear as possible about my problem : first I tell if I work online or local:

If I work local (local host)I must be precise and tell :

  • My OS : Mac, Windows 98, Windows XP, .....

  • My environnment : firewall, google bars, my different bars, anti-virus (I write their name and tell if they are activated or not

  • My server : MiniGuppy, EasyGuppY, EasyPHP1.6, EasyPHP1.7, others

  • My navigator (IE 5.5, IE6, Firefox, etc) its configuration (cookies, security, confidentiality)

  • The GuppY version I use

  • Is it the standard version ? (I just loaded it), did I install plugins ?which ones (I list them) did I modify them ? ( which kind of changes, impacted files ?)

If I work online I tell:

  • My website URLwhere the problem can be seen

  • my navigator (IE 5.5, IE6, Firefox, etc) eits configuration (cookies, security, confidentiality)

  • the GuppY version I use

  • is it the standard version (I just loaded it), did I install plugins, which ones (I list them) did I modify them ( which kind of changes, impacted files ?)

  • If I installed chmods which ones ?)

In both cases I describe my problems sorrowly and give as detailed informations as possible : :

  • I copy the error lines that can be seen

  • I describe exactly what happened since the problem appeared, which pages and which functionnalities were touched

  • I tell with details in which context the error happened (for ex " I had just modified the configuration of my pages in the Config sections, I had written the text "box number one" to rename the article box, I validated and since then the following error message appears : .....)

* How and where to post ?

Now some general rules :

  • I never write in SMS language, on contrary I express myself with clear sentences with correct grammar and vocabulary..

  • I give to my message an object which summarizes my problem by avoiding the "SOS", "help me", "I have a problem" and especially the "Urgent" one!.

  • I'm always polite, begin my message with a nice hello, if I can, I even introduce a clever "please" when I ask for help and I never forget a warm thanks when somebody has helped me. And I end my message with a nice greeting.

  • I never use the word "bug" to speak about a difficulty, I prefer the french word "couic" because the couic quiets the minds.

  • I don't post ten times the same question in 10 different GuppY-forums. I post it only once in the forum that seems to be the most appropriate and wait for the answer to my question with patience and understanding :
    • When my question is about a plugin, I post it on this plugin-author's forum.

    • When my question is about askin, I post it on this skin-author's forum.

    • When my question is about a fork, I post it on this fork-author's forum.

    • When my question is about an htaccess, I don't post it at all , because the guppy-team doesn't support .htaccess, I ask my host or my provider

    • When my question is about GuppY and it standard use, I post it on the FreeguppY forum

  • If I found a security problèm, I send a mail about it as fast as possible to the authors-developpers.

  • If I find the solution to a couic, I contact the team and tell them about it

* A golden rule

I never put the pressure on the team because they are all voluntarees who spend their free time to help me and develop Guppy : instead of that, I nurse them, offering them from time to time a muffin or an apple...If I can, I post a small nice word on their guestbook and if I'm generous I even donate something )

Bonjour frannyz,

Merci pour ces précisionscool

Amicalement,

Jean pour GuppY Team
