The recent conference which took place in February and was devoted to the "CMS" has welcomed the very awaited new release of "GuppY", which, in the purest established tradition and with no surprise , has been called "GuppY V3.0"...
--> Results of the tests done by the very dynamic "GuppY TEAM".
Take in hand
No surprise : if your site runs under a former version, click on "Preparing your GuppY", then "Installation/Migration" and let it guide you throughout, the script well run now. (Please note the erasing of the "Install" folder suggested at the end of the process, it is essential for the safety of your site.)
The new users will choose a "clean Installation" allowing them to empty the data base and to facilitate the installation of Personal contents starting from a virgin base.
Innovations of this version
The major innovation of this version, at least the eyecatching one, is undoubtedly the possibility to "skin" your GuppY, i.e. to apply a graphic theme to it, making it possible to round the edges of the boxes in particular. You can change the scales of your GuppY very easily, by choosing a skin in the config area of your site. Several skins are already proposed to you, but the GuppY users that have a good knowledge in HTML and CSS will be able to make their own graphic skins (and to share them with other GuppY masters !)
Everyone dreamt of it and GuppY made it : A newsletter is from now on available, with the management of the registered people.
Another great innovation : the possibility to publish on your site, in the "RSS" standard format, the news coming from other sites. The news of The Times or FreeguppY on your site, it is from now on possible, by checking a check box !
Two new more ergonomic dynamic menus have been added to the existing menus. The principle is simple : only the categories of the articles are listed in the boxes; a click on one of them unfolds the list of the articles, a click folds it up. Thus, the articles boxes are more compact and their ergonomic improved.
To note : a visual effect of "pressed button" on the graphic or textual links, proposed as an option in the admin, will bring a nice and neat effect to your site.
In the general configuration of your site, you will find also an option to increase the speed of the site, which compresses the pages by using the cache. The activation of this option, forced before, is henceforth put at the discretion of the webmaster.
We will not forget the improvements of the forum : have been set a truncation of too long words, to avoid the deformations of the central box and an anti-flood system, to prevent the repeated posting of the same message. In addition, you have an option to batch-archive your forum, in order to improve the performances of this last one when it begins to be consistent.
Concerning the safety, a monitoring module enables you to control the accesses to your site, by consulting the logbook.
But the major innovation of this version is elsewhere. It is not visible, since it is in Guppy's engine : it consists in a plug-ins management, which will make it possible for the voluntary and interested developers to code more easily modules for GuppY. And Nicolas already cheers us with three plug-ins (whose installation is very simple besides) : a postcards service, a "radio" module with 267 stations (!) preset and a chat module, allowing the visitors of your site to communicate online. These modules give to this generator even more universality than before, in so far as external scripts, whose code was not easy to include/understand, from now on these are transformed into plug-ins, easier to set up, once that they are coded (it is necessary to make them !)
As a conclusion, even more flexibility and options make of this script a genuine "multi-function Swiss pocket knife" essential for any user wishing to work out an exceptional site.
